  4. I saw you guys open for Pretty Girls Make Graves when you had just released Waiter: You Vultures, and though having never heard of you before I was hooked and bought your C and told you guys I thought you were great and I really wish I had said more at the time, but ever since I have been following your music and own it all. I didn’t even know the new album was a leak when I saw it online, I just thought I was behind on the times and I went to my music shop to find they didn’t have it. then I downloaded it and came to your site to find it hadn’t been released yet. The previous blog about the leak was very moving and also very insightful for a music fan. You don’t often hear that much of what artists think and feel about downloading and the music industry. I will be buying the record when it comes out, and if it doesn’t show up at my shop I will buy it here online. I am considering the vinyl/cd bundle. I love your music, and it would be a shame if you, or any other of my favorite bands quit making music because no one wanted to pay for it anymore. Shows are the lifeblood of great musical careers, but they won’t always cover all the bills. I hope you can continue to afford to make good music, and play great live shows, and feed yourselves and have a roof over your heads.

  5. It’s not really a review, but just you guys giving a “track-by-track” interview to a german music magazine “musikexpress”. Maybe you remember that;)

  6. I wish the RIAA would take your approach to downloading. what they’re doing – suing people for upwards of $80,000 per SONG – is ridiculous and just creates more animosity towards the industry and its artists.

as for the album: amazing. your best work yet. I – and I’m sure this goes for most people – can never predict what your next cd will sound like. instead of heading towards the mainstream sound like most bands do over time you keep putting out fresh, new music.

I pre-ordered the Satanic Satanist and the acoustic version of it as well. thanks for making amazing music.

  9. PTM, The leak has been the most anticipated event for me this year, and you KNOW I’m going to spread it. Especially once the album actually comes out in physical copy.

    -Eraq

P.S. I can’t wait for my CD and Shirt and Majestic Majesty!

    Eraq Gerhardt//07.04.2009
  10. 10 more days till my vinyl ships. i’m dying to get my hands on this artwork.

  11. I wouldnt even have known about the leak if you wouldnt have said something. After your first blog I didnt even consider downloading it. Then after this one I decided to besides I couldnt stand the wait knowing I didnt have to. I will still buy the album though because im super excited about what you guys have done with the packaging. I will burn a shitload of copies and pass them around though to people who havent heard of you. Also i really wanted to buy your $ 75 bundle with signed lithograph. Can you please get more. I will pay that much just for the lithograph. I was very dissapointed that you sold out when I finally had the money to buy it. Oh and the album is powerful. Im sure It will be playing non stop, my speakers will grow tired of PTM.

  12. waitin’ till the 21st, vinyl and cd.

    Donny//07.04.2009
  13. Can we get a street team going? I constantly tell new people about your band all the time because hey, everyone deserves to listen to good music.

    Tyler Hink//07.04.2009
  14. I have been anticipating this album since I heard about it back in February, I believe. When I heard of the leak I firmly told myself, “no, be patient, you already pre-ordered the vinyl and the CD, you can wait a few more agonizing weeks.” But alas, I gave in and I was absolutely floored by the album’s intense sound. Simply amazing. I read a review and read the words “magnum opus,” and it rings very true for Satanic Satanist. I am still waiting anxiously to hold this piece of art in my hands.

Kudos to you and all the great work that you do. I think it’s safe to speak for all your fans, we are very proud of you.

Lovers in Love, Everyone is Golden, Mornings, and Work all Day are my personal favorites, but the album as a whole is already one of my al time favorites, I can’t stop listening to it, and Im telling everyone I know about it.. 16. the album is amazing. i am making copies for my friends because you guys should be heard by everyone. i play the albums for anyone new riding in my car. you all are amazing. this new album is amazing. i look forward to buying it once its out. i am very excited for the album art. you all are one of my favorite bands– i can’t even count how many times i’ve seen you all play live. its great. i hope to see you in south florida!

    Jenny//07.04.2009
  17. Love the album and can’t wait for the Aug 15th show. Mornings is amazing, And of course I purchased it from the site, can’t wait to see the artwork!

  18. agreed with tyler, I’m totally down for a street team!

    cheyenne//07.05.2009
  19. well fuck, I just want PTM to know that after anticipating the show at Roo, then seeing it, and having my eyes opened as to what music live can feel like even though i have seen so, so many shows, that no matter what this band ever does i will follow it. Anyone else who saw that show knows what i am talking about. And judging from what i have heard from the shows and the previews of the new album i have no problem waiting so i can hear the album properly for the first time, on vinyl.

    eric from iowa//07.05.2009
  20. This album is a grower, at least for me. A friend told me it was even better than CC and I didn’t thought it was possible. But now after 8 listenings to the whole thing I’m starting to wonder. I live in Argentina and I’ve been saving money to pre-order the record and ship it so I was actually pretty piss off when i saw that the company that does the shiping can’t reach me… anyway, probably it’s for the best, it was REALLY expensive. I have CC and Waiter ’cause a friend from New York was able to bring them to me when he came. Anyway… congrats on the great album, Buenos Aires is waiting for you guys!

PS: a few month ago i sended u guys an e-mail and never had an answer…

    Andrés Marafioti//07.05.2009
  21. Hola Portugal! I really think this album has potential to earn you guys some serious(and well deserved for that matter) facetime with the mainstream head screwd on backwards media(ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE). I mean I went to Bonnaroo and I saw the shows and you guys out of all the bands there(besides Phish) played two shows there…and not only that one set was a badass electric set and the other was a chill accoustic. But wut really grinds my gears is the fact that in the Rolling Stone issue highlighting Bonnaroo they posted about 160 pics i think of all the different sets played at the Roo and i did not see one photo from either of your guys sets….WTF is up with that I asked…sooooo I have been blowing up Rolling Stone’s spot on their site calling them out for overlooking such a talented and unique group such as yourselves. I guaran-ass-tee you guys would bee making money hand over foot if Rolling Stone did one cover story on you….(or any major music magazine for that matter but Rolling Stone is definitely the Goliath of that industry) We as fans must be your David and throw our figurative stone on Portugal support into these magazines faces….IM AM SOOOO FUCKING SICK OF SEEING COVER STORIES ON WHO THE JONAS BROTHERS ARE GETTING ENGAGED TO OR WHO THE HELL FALLOUT BOY IS RIPPING OFF ON THEIR NEW ALBUM IT MAKES ME WANT TO VOMIT INSIDE OF MY MOUTH!!!

Well now that I got that off of my chest I will continue with my spiel….

I have loved you guys since I first heard you its true…but actually meeting you guys spun me out. I didnt expect you(John) to be so humble and nice to your fans…I mean shit man you guys were just chilling in the bar after you got done playing like you guys were just there hanging out with anyone who cared to talk to you. that really blew me away because I am friends with a lot of ppl in local bands in Cincinnati Ohio and these guys are complete pretentious douchers to people who come up to meet them.

I feel the love you guys are putting out there and it feels good lol not in a gay way but a “you be my brother and I will be yours” way. This album has so many singles on it, any song could be a single almost. You guys have the gift….John your voice is a muse of our generation…or dare I call you the songbird of our generation haha sorry had to rip off Will Ferrill there…but ya keep pressing until the walls collaspe….we will march around the walls of Jericho for an eternity until they finally come tumbling down and the greatness which is your music floods into the mainstream and overtakes the tide with its presence.

I will stop rambling now and let one of your other fans spit some love at you guys.

Take care and remember that CINCINNATI LOVES PORTUGAL THE MAN!

    Cincinnati Loves Portugal//07.05.2009
  22. Play Michigan this year, PLEASE! I will go to it, and buy AT LEAST one of your shirts.

I’ve already pre-purchased The Satanic Satanist, and I downloaded it after that. I’m already in love with it. I honestly can NOT stop listening to this album, just like all the others. All of your creativity seems to know no bounds. You guys are truly geniuses and nothing less. My favorite band before I heard you I had listened to for over 10 years. When I heard you guys play in the Magic Stick here in Detroit last year I was hooked for life. Since then you guys have effortlessly overtaken my previous favorite. I’ve been telling everyone I possibly could about you guys, I already have over a dozen people hooked. Keep playing this beautiful music!

Again, try to make room for a Michigan show please! I’ll bring as many people as I can!

    Steve//07.05.2009
  23. You guys have easily been my favorite band since the release of Church Mouth. The new record is beyond brilliant. I can’t thank you guys enough for continuing on as a band in these tough times that we all have to deal with. Although I downloaded the album early I will definitely be purchasing it when it is officially released. I can’t wait to see you guys out on the road again soon. Thank you for everything.<3

    Michael//07.05.2009
  24. i second Steve’s comment. come play your new motown influenced songs here in motown

    Nick//07.05.2009
  25. I actually would like to third Steve’s comment. It was at the Magic Stick that I met up with Portugal after the show while the RX bandits were playing. That night forever made me a Portugal fan.

Should def play the Mgic Stick again guys….we can play some bowling downstairs beneath the venue and throw back some drinks =)

Motown still got some boogey in her yet I swear it!

  26. Being from Michigan myself and missing your last few shows in the surrounding states, I would like to add another, “come to Michigan!”

    Jamie Jo//07.05.2009
  27. Keep coming to Atlanta, The state of Georgia loves you more than Coca Cola…And The Braves…And Delta…And Peaches…And Cocaine… Keep coming here. We love you.

Atlanta loves Portugal more than Cincinnati And Michigan....combined..//07.06.2009
  28. I can’t stop listening to it! I can’t wait for my vinyl =)

  30. It’s a pretty sweet album, not gunna lie. Easily your 3rd best.

I apologize, but for me nothing is going to top Waiter: “You Vultures” or Church Mouth.

    Primer Grey//07.06.2009
  31. Wasss up Bruno style! Yo Portugal you guys just need to go on a massive US tour to rock out your new album. When you guys play live shows I would love to recommend that you guys play a lot more songs off the new album. Don’t get me wrong I love hearing you guys rock out on all your classic songs but I would still enjoy seeing you play a whole set of Satanic Satanist songs. It would be like watching a live Beatles show or better in its own right dare I say! The new album is perfect for the summer weather…I drive around blasting the tunes where ever I go…even when I am driving through the ghetto of Cincinnati the infamous “Over The Rhine” rated worst neighborhood in the nation. I DON”T GIVE A FUNK ABOUT THAT NOISE>>>>> I drive through bumping “The Woods” like wassss uppp bra!!!

But seriously, Cincinnati wants to have Portugal the Man’s love child haha suck it Atlanta jk nothing but love for fellow Portugal fans

    Out

  35. See you at Lollapalooza. Just bought the tickets yesterday! My boyfriend and I will be right in the front row singing along to every song.

    Jessica//07.07.2009
  36. I just found out about you guys and you have a scary resemblance to my band. It’s almost terrifying sometimes. Haha. The new album is so beautifully done. Each song has it’s own components and character. I will be buying your album as soon as that day comes. I pray blessings on each road PTM takes in the future.

    JD//07.07.2009
  37. I just thought of something. You guys (whether this is offensive or not) are the Bob Ross of music. Haha
Just like he could work up an amazing painting in a half hour, you guys can work up an amazing song (Created) in a half hour.

Haha I just thought that was funny.

  39. honestly i think what you guys wrote about downloading and how it affects your life was just a skimic to get more money. after reading your entry i lost interest in your band. I dont think that making people feel sorry for you guys is the right approach to make people buy your album. After you guys posted that entry your pre order sales went up and thats what you guys wanted. and so now you guys are putting more things up for sale, like the 5 cd bundle. if you guys were really into making music for the love of it you guys would not have posted that. srry i had to say all that but as long time P.TM fan i thought should let you guys know.

    kool aid//07.11.2009
  40. Koolaid doesnt know shit!! if they didnt love making music for the love of making music then why are they selling 5 cds so cheap? If it was about cash they never would of put that deal up, and i think john said something like the less merch bands sell the less touring they can do, and its pretty stupid to lose interest in a band for wanting to make some cash for themselves. I like alot of artist that are only in the business for the fame and money i bet more than half of your music is full of these types of musicians, P.TM isnt anything like those bands, look at how long they have been touring not being super famous or super rich. Thats one way you can tell their in the business for the music oh and they have put out more music in the little time that they have been a band than any musician/ musicians i know of, i wish their were more bands like this one

    LOve you P.TM

  41. Downloaded this “leak” because I couldn’t wait. Sorry and I’ll be picking up the CD… but I had only seen a brief live song you played on Fuel TV. The first act we saw at Bannaroo was ya’ll and it melted my face. You guys set the bar so high for the rest of the weekend. Thank you.

p.s. You should definetly look into playing the Norva in Norfolk, VA. http://www.thenorva.com. … please. I can gaurantee I’ll be making at least a dozen people go and you will love the venue.

    Creighton//07.14.2009

  43. I downloaded the album to preview it. And I just placed my pre-order. :) I would have bought it regardless.

Thanks for all the hard work. I know what bands go through (both studio, practice, and show wise) and you guys excel at it.

    Thank you so much.

  46. You guys continue to blow me away. Probably my favorite live band today, and this is my best favorite album yet.

I did a write up on the album on my blog. I tweeted about it already, but who knows, perhaps this will assist others in coming to the decision. Great job, and good luck with it. I really think this is the album that is going to make everyone realize how special your band is.
